Jubbaland Forces Repel Al-Shabab Assault on Strategic Village Near Kismayo

AQRI.net Report from Kismayo, Somalia – Somali security forces in Jubbaland have successfully repelled an attack by the militant group Al-Shabab on Buulo Haji village, located near Kismayo. The area, a critical strategic point, was liberated from Al-Shabab’s control just a few months ago.

According to Jubbaland’s regional forces spokesperson, Major Mohamed Farah Dahir, Al-Shabab launched a fierce assault on the army’s defensive positions outside Buulo Haji. However, Jubbaland forces managed to defeat the attackers, inflicting heavy casualties on the militants.

“Despite Al-Shabab’s claims that they had seized the village and killed six of our soldiers, the truth is they never breached our defenses,” Major Dahir stated. “Two of our soldiers lost their lives, and two others were wounded, but we maintain full control of our previous positions,” he confirmed.

This latest clash follows a significant operation in July 2024, during which Somali government troops, supported by Jubbaland’s Darawish forces, killed more than 100 Al-Shabab militants in Buulo Haji, Harbole, and Mido. Major Dahir emphasized that 135 militants were killed in total during these engagements, solidifying government control over key areas in Jubbaland.
